Acclaimed Singer-Songwriter Jonathan Johnston to Release New Album in 2020

Jonathan Johnston delivers a uniquely nostalgic and acoustically-driven pop sound, drawing influence from the likes of John Mayer, Maroon 5, and Ed Sheeran.  Jonathan was born in New York state and moved to Maine as a child where he grew up on a farm. He was homeschooled, and later earned a bachelor’s degree in Mental Health and Human Services from the University of Maine. Outside of writing music, his interests include horseback riding, wine tasting, reading, hiking, physical fitness, and carpentry. At 16 years old, Jonathan began playing acoustic music in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, where he worked as a humanitarian-aid volunteer. Since then, Jonathan has performed regularly in support of numerous charitable foundations, including Compassion International, Maine’s annual Walk to End Hunger, the American Legion, and the Ian Parker Foundation.  In 2011, Jonathan released his first album, River Beneath the Ground by the Jonathan Johnston Band. River Beneath the Ground is a unique and catchy blend of contemporary Christian-Rock with insightful and introspective lyrics. The Jonathan Johnston Band included the members Jonathan Johnston (guitars, vocals), Timothy Sturtevant (bass), and Jonathan Truman (drums). They later changed their name to The Band Apollo after inviting Ben Packard to the group, resulting in a collaborative set of tracks featuring an edgier style of music.
As the lead singer/songwriter for The Band Apollo (2012-2016), Jonathan Johnston released two albums; a self-titled EP (2012) and a second EP, Soldier or a Spy (2014). The debut EP, released in November 2012, was recorded at The Brown Owl Studio in Nashville, TN was produced by Grammy-nominated, Dove Award-winning Australian artist Grant Norsworthy (member of the bands Sonic Flood and Paul Colman Trio), and engineered by Darrell Lehman (Sound Engineer for Mute Math and The Band Perry). The EP features ‘Bad Company’, the band's first single to receive airplay in Maine on 98.9 WCLZ, ‘Little Red Dress’, which ranked #3 on WTOS-FM Homegrown Top Ten for 2012, and ‘Over Me’, which is featured on MTV’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. This immediate local success resulted in The Band Apollo’s nomination for ‘Best Artist in State: Maine’ by The New England Music Awards. On December 8th, 2014, The Band Apollo released their groundbreaking album, Soldier or a Spy, which was recorded at Hearstudios in Camden, Maine during the summer of 2014. The new album was produced by Grant Norsworthy and recorded, mixed, and mastered by Darrell Lehman. Notable tracks from the sophomore EP include ‘Blood Sweat Fame’, which was featured on the television series Rogue, and ‘Soldier or a Spy’ which received radio play on 98.9 WCLZ in Maine. Jonathan Johnston performed more than 100 live shows as frontman for The Band Apollo throughout the United States from 2012 to 2015, ranging from local bars and private parties to headlining college shows, outdoor festivals, and charitable events such as Maine's Walk to End Hunger. Jonathan Johnston shared the stage with various notable acts, including the Pete Kilpatrick Band and Enter the Haggis. The Band Apollo has been featured in Maine's Kennebec Journal, WPXT's Private Stage TV, Boston University's WTBU Left of the Dial, 107.9 The Mix FM, and WMPG Local Motives.
Jonathan Johnston released his first single as a solo artist in 2015, titled ‘Underage Wine’. It was mixed by Jonathan Truman, former drummer of The Band Apollo, and mastered by Darrell Lehman at Tonegrown Studios in Allentown, PA. The song is available worldwide on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon, and more. It has received airplay on University of Southern Maine’s WMPG Local Motives and University of Maine Presque Isle’s WUPI 92.1 FM. Since the release of his single, Jonathan has played over 250 shows throughout the United States. His most recent regional tour of Washington State included various solo acoustic sets, blues-jam collaboration events with talented local musicians, and an intimate performance at a Bainbridge Island winery. He has multiple tracks written for his upcoming full-length album and continues to tour regularly in support of its release in the spring of 2020.
