Triple Threat Performer Majo Rivero Works Alongside Broadway Choreographer Stephanie Klemons on award-winning musical In The Heights
Majo Rivero is a triple threat performer originally from León, Mexico now based in NYC. Her outstanding abilities can clearly be seen throughout her professional career. Some of her previous credits include- Mijita in DESAPARECIDAS at Joe’s Pub, Adelita in LITTLE DUENDE for the NAMT Festival, Sandra in SUEÑOS; OUR AMERICAN MUSICAL, and recently seen as Yolanda and Dance Captain in IN THE HEIGHTS at The Madison Theatre.
IN THE HEIGHTS is a musical with concept, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Quiara AlegrÃa Hudes. The story is set over the course of three days, involving characters in the largely Dominican American neighborhood of Washington Heights in Upper Manhattan, New York City. Directed and choreographed by Original Broadway cast member and currently associate choreographer of tony award best winning musical HAMILTON, Stephanie Klemons.
Majo Rivero got to work alongside Stephanie, associate choreographer Satori Folkes-Stone, and associate director Brittney Griffin. For Majo to portray the role of Yolanda was extremely special mainly because her (also professional actress) sister Gabriela Garcia performed as the same character in London’s production on the West End “something so special that we both get to share as sisters and Mexican performers in a foreign country” Majo says. As a dance captain you hold a lot of responsibilities- you have to take care of yourself while also taking care of the company, and the material within the project.
“It was the best learning experience I could’ve asked for. I got very lucky to have worked with such a loving and super talented cast. It definitely got me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible, and getting to work so close to Stephanie Klemons… life changing” Majo concludes.
