Marlon Sassy pulls from everywhere to compile "Gangster Doodles Vol. 1."

 Described with the same level of detail the title suggests, Marlon Sassy's All City Records compilation Gangster Doodles Vol. 1 is as odd as it may seem at first glance. That's because none of the material compiled follows any sequence of note. The Max B add-on sounds like a time relic, the Kaytranada submission too effervescent (by comparison).

Individually speaking, every song has its merit, together the project lacks in unity. That's not to say there aren't plenty of memorable moments accounted in the 25-song project. This is what Sassy had to say about his curatorial efforts.

"When I originally had the idea of doing a comp, I started out only wanting to have 5-10 songs to try and make an EP. Just something quick & dirty," writes Sassy in the bio section of the SoundCloud submission. Over the course of 2 years that number & concept snowballed and became somewhat of a moving target. It was only fitting that the last & final track of the comp came in from Madlib & Oh No. As soon as that came in I knew it was a wrap. Heaven's gate opened and the weed angels rejoiced."

Give'er a listen at your own desired pace. Gangster Doodles Vol. 1 features everything from airy bedroom production, posthumous contributions, French hip-hoppers turned House producers-turned hip-hoppers again, all the way to regulars strokes like the Madlib/ Oh No collaboration that leaked ahead of the compilation's release.
