Listen to the five-track project.
At some point, she met up with Diplo, and the two wrote the music that has now become the Starrah x Diplo EP. The project includes pre-release singles "Swerve" and "Imperfections." Diplo explained how it all came together in an interview with Zane Lowe earlier this year.
"I did a whole EP with Starrah. It's coming out on Mad Decent. I'm really happy with it," he said. "She's one of my favorite voices. Did like 5-6 songs with her."
Before the release of their joint EP, the two collaborated on "Know No Better," a Major Lazer single featuring Travis Scott, Quavo, and Camila Cabello. "I had written the record with Starrah, and I was like 'yo this is perfect for Travis,'" he said. "Originally it was a trap beat. We were at Coachella last year, we just wrote the piano line. It was a hip-hop record. I wrote a lot of stuff like that with Starrah. Me and King Henry wrote the beat. We wrote a trap song."
While Starrah began her career making rap and R&B records, her work with Diplo reflects a jump into electronic pop. "Starrah just kills those [trap] records," said Diplo. "Records like 'Needed Me' or 'Pick Up The Phone.' She just had a great verse on it. I was like 'this is great but there are so many trap records. how do we make something bigger?' So we always con Starrah into making house records now."
The 5 track EP is available for stream across all major streaming services. If you're a fan of Starrah's vocals, make sure to check out the video for her early single "Rush."
