Stunning rap ballads from a new South Florida talent.

 Gifford, Florida rapper YNW Melly has released his debut full-length I Am You. Known for emotional ballads that can be anywhere between violent and lovelorn, tracks like "Murder On My Mind," "Slang That Iron," and "772 Love" have earned him a following. A number of those previous singles appear on the project, but it's mostly made up of brand new material, including "Freaky Girl," a song that interpolates Gucci Mane's early single "Freaky Gurl." While there are certainly a lot of rappers who are regularly singing on tracks, Melly manages to take a step closer to R&B than his peers, using a soulful, technically impressive voice unassisted by auto-tune. His world-weary balladry feels descended from the likes of Rich Homie Quan, but not enough to say what he's doing doesn't feel altogether new. Listen to his new project in its entirety below.
